Wayne moved in the world of advertising
armed with a degree
he started in savouries
cutting his teeth in the wonderful world of Wigan
within three years talk of concrete bottoms
iron sides and flaky pastry
had been superceded by sexy straplines
mango mornings followed silky evenings

Wayne’s weekends had been full of frizz
but within three years
and fully conditioned
Wayne rose in the world of advertising
armed with a boot
full of samples of shampoo

  1. A few commas would help, Sarah. I stumbled over line 5. Not certain what the last two lines mean but I love ‘armed with a boot’ and the hair references!

  2. thanks for commenting Martin – that helps a lot – sorry should have explained “Holland’s pies – made of flies – concrete bottoms – iron sides” – just a ditty from up north – and Wigan is where pie eaters hail from

  3. Oooh, missed this one. They talk weird in Wigan. I worked with a woman called Jean Furust. It was months before I realised she was Jean Fairhurst.

I stumbled over line 5 too – maybe a comma after years or a gap or a new line.

    ‘superseded’

full of frizz – fab. love him being fully conditioned.
