Scarlet cardinal bird
as you fly into the branches of that old mango tree
amongst its large, scant leaves
large fruit
hardly a camouflage
large, red cardinal bird!
upward towards the sun you soar
like a crimson streak
now there is some light of love for you
from that bright shining star
the sun
you swoop
into the mango tree
you wait
someone throws rice beneath the old mango tree
down again you swoop
it is good to receive food
scarlet cardinal bird!
Nice to see this on the website, Anne. I’m wondering if you could lose a mango tree…? Maybe the one after ‘you swoop’ and maybe lose ‘it is good to receive food’… because you’ve already shown us the rice being thrown…and the exclamation mark at the end so that it reads:
you swoop
you wait
someone throws rice beneath the old mango tree
down again you swoop
scarlet cardinal bird.
These, of course, are just one person’s suggestions and, as always, the poem is yours to do with as you will! The poem paints a really nice picture.
