The format for our meeting on 10th February is as follows:

Bring and share a poem about railways, your poem or somebody else’s (or both, depending on time available)

‘Railways’ of course can be interpreted loosely. Very loosely.

After we’ve heard all the poems there should be time to discuss the variations that arise from one prompt and how we tackle the task.

You have two weeks to write a poem should you wish to do so… aeons of time.

No need to send your poem(s) in advance.

We will meet in the Subscriber’s Room at 7.30pm.

  1. Railways – what an interesting theme that turned out to be. From horses to beheadings and scarlet half moons on a Russian station. For somebody like me who doesn’t know much poetry it is all good stuff. Stuck in my mind is the 11.15 in Liz’s poem – how important specifics can be. I would love to read Martin’s funny poem. I remember the other one from his MA and enjoyed hearing it again. So glad that Sarah’s chough became female as it adds that extra layer which makes an observation become poetry – that extra dimension we are all searching for. Perhaps we could do it all again with another theme? Art, beauty, clouds, danger, endings, festivals, gardens, hope, ice cream …. Thanks Robbie.
