Thank you for the session on form Monday 11 August Robbie and thanks to everyone round the table who made comments – it’s difficult to have a discussion if nobody says anything.
I enjoyed seeing different examples of different forms and gauging the initial response of those forms on the group. It certainly helps you to work out what type of direction you are steering towards (if any!) – I am guilty of using illustrations; changing the font; using shapes; playing with form; playing with words; trying to learn the rules and having great fun breaking them. Not everybody likes that but that is just one of the reasons why poetry is such a fascinating subject (to me). I am also a great fan of children’s poetry and I always feel a bit defensive when poets appear to be rating it low on the list of serious writing.
Diana said something very interesting when she said – it depends if you see poetry as an art form or not – great food for thought.
It was fascinating to hear that Chris is using found poetry to push her writing forwards into territories unknown. How exciting!
