I wish the world was a better place
where no one died a violent death
or starved for want of basic food
or choked on a polluted breath.
I’d like to think there’s one solution
on which humanity could agree.
Will it be a revolution?
Tried it once; it’s not for me.
So, here I sit with good intentions,
now and then donating cash
that may just save a life or two
without embarking on the rash.
I wish the world was a better place;
I text a fiver with my phone
then sit and write a word or two,
thankful that I’m left alone.
Great title and the form suits it. ‘Tried it once; it’s not for me’ – brings a bit of light relief at just the right place. Which of course is the whole point of the poem…. ‘I text a fiver with my phone’ – fab.
I had to read it three times to understand ‘on the rash’…
