Sorry if posts about Judy Brown’s workshop on July 14th are appearing in another part of the blog. I always get a bit confused as to where to post my ‘stuff’. Anyway, I’m going for ‘general’ and ‘July’ in the hope that it will be found!
Anyroad, it was an excellent workshop, very challenging – in a supportive and brain zinging sort of way, with the added accompaniment of overhead tap dancing. I wrote things I’d never have written without the challenge of Judy’s prompts, though, yes, I do confess, birdies appeared in all my scribblings! I don’t know, they just seem to fly into my poems, usually from the left, though sometimes from directly above.
Robbie suggested we might post one of our pieces from the night, just to give others a flavour of what we got up to, well here goes…… (This is as written in 10 mins or so on the night)
Exercise – compose a poem using the following words (everyone had different words)
Nice, Falco tinnunculus (scientific name for a kestrel), Buddha, Karma, The Bees Knees, Large Hadron Collider, Local MP, ‘to whom it may concern,’
Karma By Sarah Lewis
A nice looking Falco tinnunculus hovered over Buddha –
sitting cross-legged and smiling,
this is the bees knees, he said
but I long to see the large hadron collider.
So he wrote to his local MP –‘to whom it may concern.’
But the longed- for trip was not to be.
It’s just a matter of karma, the Buddha smiled
because of all those voles you’ve consumed
in your short, sharp life
wasn’t at the workshop so it was good to read all about it – gosh – sounded challenging!
