Someone said hello the other day;
she looked familiar. I assume
it was a neighbour
but I don’t know where she lives.
You can’t opt out of being one
although your nearest may be
miles away across a continent
or on a desert island in the Pacific
or, perhaps, your neighbour ceases
to be a neighbour as he (or she)
disappears below the horizon
although you may still spot
a flag waving in the distance
as you sit on the summit of Everest.
