If I was a petrol-head’s wife I’d leave
Swarfega on the draining-board
and go off to do the tango
with a sweat-slicked man
who’d lean and bend
us both around
a dance floor.
Later, I’d dream
about rust blisters
lifting blue paint from an E-type Jag
parked for ten years in a buttercup field.
My husband would wake with La Cumparsita
sashaying through his head.
Have you been watching Strictly?! I like the shape, going from smooth fantasy to disrupted reality! It’s wacky and I love the first stanza in particular.
Love the details like Swarfega on the draining-board. I like the idea of dreaming the other persons dream. The form works well with this in mind – the fisrt stanza dwindling into the second stanza and the second stanza growing from the first.
Sashaying! Penny has used that word too. I’m told it comes from Miranda. I love the humour in this. The idea of an E-type parked in a field! Whatever next.
