November has been taken up with trying to put two sets of poems together as pamphlet submissions. It’s an interesting exercise as single poems can take on a different dimension when set amongst others of a similar or dissimilar tenor. It’s also frustrating when, having put an almost complete set together, you start reading it from the beginning to see if it flows and to discover which of your leftover poems could be inserted and you find that almost every poem needs a bit of adjustment. So far I’ve got one set almost complete… almost…

So it’s not that I’ve lost interest in posting on here but that all my writing time is being taken up by fiddling, fiddling, fiddling… It will probably carry over into December too…

… but I will find time to post more writing challenges. It’s been great, reading the responses to November’s challenges and commenting on them too. The practice of commenting is helping me cast a critical eye over my own work… like anything it’s a skill that needs constant honing.

  1. This is really exciting Robbie. Do you have titles for the pamphlets yet?… I find titles intriguing and some collection titles grab me as a reader whereas others you only understand until you get deeply into the collection, would love to hear more about the process you are going through at the next meeting maybe… In between open mike (without the mike) and mice pies

  2. Yes – things can change when you place a poem next to another or under a title – it’s a bit like looking at settees in a warehouse and then getting one delivered and finding that it doesn’t fit and isn’t even the right colour. It’s no good trying to squash it in or hiding it under cushions. Looking forward to seeing the work in print soon.
