Cross Border Poets, a Poetry Society Stanza, is based in North East Wales. Zoom meetings draw in members from Eryri to the Pennines, Fife to Devon, Chester to Flint. Face-to-face meetings take place in Gladstone’s Library, Hawarden.

At present we alternate between Zoom and face-to-face meetings which begin at 7.30pm on the second Monday of each month. Since 2009 we have held regular Anonymous-Read-and-Feedback sessions, open-mic-without-a-mic evenings, poetry discussions and writing workshops.

At our Annual General Meeting in September 2024 we decided that 2025 would be different, the first three months of the year taking place via Zoom. This change will be reviewed in March. Face-to-face meetings will continue in a way yet to be decided.

In the past we have been privileged to hold workshops tutored by Jo Bell, Judy Brown, Jane Commane, Jonathan Davidson, Jonathan Edwards, Rosie Garland, Philip Gross, Paul Henry, Gill McEvoy, Andrew McMillan, Alison McVety, Kim Moore and David Morley. In 2025 it is hoped that we will continue to bring inspirational poets to Flintshire, some of them from the second half of the alphabet.

We have held writing workshops at Erddig, the Shropshire Union Canal, Theatr Clwyd, Plas Newydd (home of the Ladies of Llangollen), halfway up Hope Mountain and aboard a narrowboat crossing the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. It rained.

It is not mandatory for members of Cross Border Poets to be Poetry Society members. We have our own constitution which outlines our objectives and management.
